Abstract

The removal of congo red, methyl orange, bromocresol green and indigo carmine by Trametes versicolor, Pleurotus ostreatus, and Agaricus bisporus was studied. The fungi were used in dried and powdered form. Bioassays were performed in 25 mL Erlenmeyer flasks at room temperature and 800 rpm. The concentration of each of the dyes was 200 ppm, and that of the fungi was 10 g/L; all tests were performed in duplicate. The concentration of each of the dyes was 200 ppm, and that of the fungi was 10 g/L; all tests were performed in duplicate. The pH, reduction oxide potential and percentage decolorization were monitored using a Uv-Vis spectrophotometer at the wavelength of maximum absorbance of each of the dyes. P. ostreatus removed 72.0% of congo red, T. versicolor degraded completely to indigo carmine and methyl orange.
