Abstract

This paper aims to reconstruct the possible relationships between peace and democracy by addressing the issue of what model of democracy better corresponds to the formation of a culture of peace. To this end, the broadly views of peace and democracy are reconstructed to criticize either minimalist or negative visions, suggesting a normative relationship between positive peace and substantive democracy. Later we will argue in favor of the deliberative democratic model as the one that best fits the requirements of citizen education and culture of peace in the internal systems. Finally, some key elements to consider in relation to the formation of democratic citizenship rooted in the values of a global culture of peace will be outlined.
