Sources of knowledge of youth basketball coaches

The purpose of this research was to investigate the sources of knowledge that underpin the process of training and professional development of youth basketball coaches. The methodology was qualitative and exploratory. Semi-structured interviews were used and the analysis was based on content analysis. The participants were six youth basketball coaches. The results revealed that the training and professional development of coaches came through diversified sources of knowledge, especially the internet, dialogue with experienced coaches, experiences as athlete, experiences in daily work, Physical Education program and short courses. These evidences revealed the predominance of informal learning outside of institutionalized educational context.
