Abstract

The article analyzes the features of the presidential election in Poland held in 2020. Its distinctive features were the holding of voting amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the postponement of the first round of voting and the replacement of the candidate from the main opposition force – Koalicja Obywatelska. The article describes in detail the campaign of the main candidates: A. Duda and R. Trzaskowski, with a great emphasis on the latter. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the reasons for the victory of the incumbent head of state and the failure of the representative from the opposition forces. The author notes that the success of A. Duda, who, despite his non-partisanship, acts as a conductor of the interests of the ruling Law and Justice party, is justified by the fact that the latter managed to fulfill part of its initial election promises during its term in power. Thanks to this, a stable group of electoral support was formed, which ensured the victory of A. Dude.
