Abstract

Malignant glioma is the most highly invasive primary brain tumor associated with anextremely poor prognosis and median survival of only 14.6 months. An improved treatment for glioblastomais urgently needed. Unique to oncolytic viruses (OVs) is the ability of the virus to infect specifically atumor cell and induce tumor lysis through the release of viral progeny, which can subsequently infectnearby tumor cells. Several OVs proved their safety and efficacy in several preclinical studies. In thisreview, we report the OVs that successfully transferred into the clinical trials.
