Abstract

The goals of this descriptive and correlational study were to investigate the learning strategies and the motivation to learn of future teachers, to explore differences between semesters, as well to examine the correlation between the two variables. The sample consisted of 172 students of a private university of São Paulo/BR. Data was collected by means of two scales. Results from analysis of variance indicated statistically significant differences for Intrinsic Motivation between the second and eighth semesters. Significant and positive correlations between the Strategy Scale and Subscales, and Total |Motivation and Intrinsic Motivation emerged. Extrinsic Motivation was negatively and significantly correlated with all learning strategy subscales.
