ENGLISH: What does ‚Quality‘ mean, concerning religious education in school? The article discusses, why it is so difficult to answer the quality-question. It highlights the so called ‚process quality‘ und underlines the importance of the relation between ‚cognitive activation‘ and ‚constructive adaptation‘ as the two main components of the didactic process. From that point of view today’s religious education in school has, as a recent empirical study makes clear, not yet exhausted its potential. DEUTSCH: Was ist guter Religionsunterricht? Der Artikel macht deutlich, warum es so schwierig ist, eine klare Antwort auf die Frage zu geben. Er rückt die sog. ‚Prozessqualität‘ in den Fokus und stellt das Zusammenspiel von ‚kognitiver Aktivierung‘ und ‚konstruktiver Adaption‘ als für diese wesentlich heraus. Unter diesem Gesichtspunkt hat der gegenwärtige Religionsunterricht, wie aktuelle empirische Unterrichtsforschung zeigt, durchaus noch Entwicklungspotential.
