Abstract
- This book focuses on the imaging manifestations of tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is a common and challenging clinical problem with protean manifestations and can affect any organ system. Imaging plays a vital role in detection of the disease, in narrowing the differential diagnosis and provides subtle differentiating features because of the non-specific clinical presentation; radiologist may be the first to raise a suspicion of this disease. This book consists of 18 chapters, which include epidemiology of tuberculosis, clinical features of tuberculosis, laboratory and molecular diagnosis of tuberculosis, pathology relevant to radiologist, basics of antitubercular therapy, multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, central nervous system tuberculosis, spinal tuberculosis, head and neck tuberculosis, imaging in chest tuberculosis, lymph node tuberculosis, imaging in abdominal tuberculosis, imaging in urogenital tuberculosis, tuberculosis of bones and joints, cardiovascular tuberculosis, whole body imaging in tuberculosis, tuberculosis in the pediatric patient, and positron emission tomography-computed tomography in tuberculosis. Recent advances in imaging with specific application in imaging a multisystem disease like whole body MR and PET-CT are also covered. An emerging application of imaging in this context is treatment response assessment as increasingly clinical improvement is not accepted as an end-point of therapy. This is also covered in the relevant sections of the book. This book will be useful to the students and practicing radiologists and internists.
