Colecciones de libros electrónicos en las bibliotecas universitarias españolas

The current subscription of e-books in libraries of the public Spanish universities is studied. The analysis is focused on the offered contents, the functionalities of platforms and the user interaction facilities. It can be noted that 36 of the 50 existing universities support the subscription of at least one collection of electronic books. The universities of the communities of Andalusia, Catalonia and Valencia are those that have reached a greater implementation of this product. It is an emerging sector that needs a progressive acceptance on the part of the scientific community. We consider that e-books will have a significant role in the new model of education supported by the European Higher Education Area.
