Covert orienting to the location of targets and distractors: effects on response channel activation in a flanker task

This article examines the role of covert orienting of attention in response to channel activation. The authors, employing the flanker interference and precueing models in four experiments, conclude flanker interference proceeds at unattended locations and response channel activation can occur independently from spatial attention.
