Abstract

In this paper we address the problem of JPEG 2000 imaging in a wireless environment. We first define a flexible and efficient data structure for the description of the error sensitivity of different parts of a JPEG 2000 codestream or file format; the data structure is designed in such a way that it can be seamlessly integrated as payload of a JPEG 2000 marker segment or file format box. Moreover, we investigate ARQ policies for robust packet-based JPEG 2000 image transmission over 3G mobile communication systems, and highlight how the proposed data structure can be exploited to improve the end-to-end performance (1).
