Abstract

The synthesis and characterization of stable phosphanylidene-sigma(super 4)-phosphoranes such as Mes*P = PMe3 and 2,6-Mes2C6H3P = PMe3 is reported. Studies indicate potential catalytic role of phosphine in chlorine atom transfer processes.
