Phenanthroline complexes bearing fused dipyrrolyquinoxaline anion recognition sites: efficient fluoride anion receptors

A new and potentially more generalizable strategy that is based on metal coordination is reported. The synthesis and fluoride anion recognition properties of the fused dipyrrolylquinoxaline phenanthroline derivative and its ruthenium(II) and cobalt (III) complexes are presented.
