Abstract

In order to develop biologically active compounds from the inactive trans isomer of stilbene combretastatin A-1, after asymmetric hidroxylation to optically pure (R,R)-diol the unexpected racemic diphenylacetaldehyde was generated via a pinacol rearrangement.
