Intrapartum exposure to nevirapine and subsequent maternal responses to nevirapine-based antiretroviral therapy

Intrapartum nevirapine or placebo was given to 1844 Thai women who had received zidovudine in the third trimester of pregnancy. The results show that both antiretroviral prophylaxis and antiretroviral therapy are beneficial against mother-to-child transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
