Thickness dependence of Co anisotropy in TbFe/Co exchange-coupled bilayers

X-ray magnetic circular dichroism spectroscopy was used for examining the orientation of element-specific moments in the TbFe/Co exchange-biased bilayers. The in-plane anisotropy of Co became dominant with increasing Co thickness leading to preferred in-plane moments of Co and TbFe near the interface.
