Abstract

The U.S. Energy Department is trying to show how new technology can eliminate the negative environmental impact of coal combustion. The new technology is that the coal gas is not burned, but separated into hydrogen and carbon dioxide, making carbon dioxide capture much easier and hydrogen would then be used to produce electricity either by turbine of fuel cell or sold for industrial use.
