Windows thrown open in a suffocating room

Israel's international relations have improved since the election victory of Yitzhak Shamir's Labour party and peace talks with its Arab neighbours are set to resume. There are still a number threats to peace in the region, however, and these include the possibility of other Middle Eastern countries developing nuclear weapons, the possibility of protests from the Jewish settlers, the referendum to be held on relinquishing land and the reformation of the Likud Party under a new leader.
