Abstract

The Hungry Hollow Formation of southwestern Ontario, which was correlated to the Ludlowvillian Centerfield Limestone of New York, should be reassigned to the Middle varcus Subzone instead of the Lower varcus Subzone. The macrofauna of Hungry Hollow is related to that of the Prout Formation. However, a 1985 exploration in the Prout Formation yielded abundant and diverse conodont species, including Polygnathus ansatus, the index species for the Middle varcus Subzone. Thus, the Hungry Hollow is more likely correlated to the Tully Limestone of New York, well above the Ludlowville.
