The problems of growing up

The Taiwanese economy must be upgraded and invest in new technologies to reach the next stage of its development. It has formerly relied upon low cost production for growth, but this is loosing its competitiveness. The ruling Kuomintang party is spending $306 billion to upgrade the country's infrastructure and is encouraging compainies to use more technology. Industrial output has stagnated and imports are growing in relation to exports.
