Abstract

Israel's Orthodox Jewry's accusations that Zionists caused the Holocaust, did nothing to help the Jews and even helped the Germans both serve a political purpose and reform the understanding of the Holocaust. The Orthodox position is that Zionists are sinners because they chose secularism over religion and therefore hate all religious and diaspora Jews who may undermine their efforts to create a secular nation in Israel. Accordingly, Orthodox Jews believe Zionism is bad and so view the Holocaust as a case where God made Orthodox Jews into dead heroes while punishing the sinning Zionists.
