Linear electro-optic effect and temperature coefficient of birefringence in 4-nitro-4'-methylbenzylidene aniline single crystals

Abstract: The linear electro-optic effect in 4-nitro-4-methylbenzylidene aniline single crystals was analyzed. The half-wave voltages were measured at 2.8, 1.3 and 1.1kV at 632.8, 514.5 and 488.0 nm. The results showed that the crystal features asignificant electro-optic effect. In addition, the birefringence was observed to be larger than that found in inorganic materials.
