The lion and the tiger

Julie Ward was murdered in the Masai Mara in 1988 and only fragments of her body have been found. The Sunday Mirror published a sleazy article on her, mildly pornographic, saying that she was very sexually active and provocative and that her friend Steve Watson was linked to her murder. The freelance reporter was David Barritt and the senior Mirror staff initially complained to by Julie's father were Eve Pollard and Robert Maxwell himself. Legal action by Stephen Ward against David Barritt eventually led to a financial settlement and, much more important, a retraction and apology.
