Abstract
- Eukaryotic promoters are activated and regulated with the assistance of TFIID a general transcription initiation factor. Unusual structural motifs in the DNA-binding domain typifies the unique binding properties of TFIID and its other roles. TFIID can cause DNA bending on the area of the TATA element and this might start the pooling of other initiation factors into a functional preinitiation mechanism. The observed bending may also possess a stabilizing effect on factor interactions.
