Abstract
- A dynamic modal theory was used to investigate polarization induced switching and bistability in a nonlinear prism coupler. The results showed that an unstable branch in the polarization process acted as separation between the basins of attraction in the upper and lower states. When the system was brought to a state above the unstable branch of the TE curve, it transferred to the upper branch.
