On the origin of the thermostabilization of proteins induced by sodium phosphate

The relationship between the intrinsic thermal stability of the different mutants and their sensitivity to phosphate-induced thermostabilization is demonstrated using site-directed mutagenesis of surface residues. The clear difference between the effect of phosphate and chloride ions demonstrates that the observed stabilization is not simply a result of changes in ionic strength.
