Abstract: Indicator organisms that reside in the gastrointestinal tracts of humans and animals are used worldwide to monitor water quality. The results have implications for the accuracy of microbial source tracking methods, modeling of microbial populations in water, and efficacy of regulatory standards for protection of water quality.
