Abstract

Cable television is available to about 400,000 British homes but other companies have not produced the networks. OFTEL and the DTI should act against companies with franchises which have not built their networks. There are about 30 UK cable TV stations but not all cable companies offer them, although they may provide foreign ones. Reception varies. Cable telephone services are usually cheaper than BT or Mercury. Satellite installation costs are higher than cable, but running costs are similar. Some satellite stations are free. Satellite systems Amstrad SRD 510 and the Pace PRD 800 were tested.
