Abstract
- Monochromatic X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was used in the determination of the Pt 4f binding energies of the Pt center in PtI(C6H3 CH2NMe2 2-2,6)(eta super 1 - I2) and related organoplatinum complexes. It was determined that the Pt-eta(super 1)-I2 species has a Pt 4f(sub 7/2) binding energy of 72.5 eV which corresponds to the formal oxidation state of Pt. A slightly higher binding energy of the Pt 4f(sub 7/2) peak exists for the species than for the Pt(II) complexes. This indicates a lower electron density of the Pt atom of the Pt-eta(super 1)-I2 species.
