Abstract

Sales of double-width newspaper presses have dropped dramatically as US newspapers recover from a deep advertising recession. Press manufacturers have cut prices 20% since the 1980s and are drastically reorganizing operations in order to survive. Industry sources note that none of the three largest double-width press manufacturers is currently profitable and this situation is likely to continue in the near term.
