Abstract

The environmental effect of intervalence transition for trans-(py)(NH3)4Ru-pz-Ru(NH3)4(py)5+, a structure comparable to the Creutz-Taube ion, is analyzed according to its response to both solvent and added electrolyte. Using dimethyl sulfoxide as the electrolyte and acetonitrile as solvent, intervalence effects are observed through the absorbance differences obtained.
