Abstract

Arco Oil and Gas Co developed methodology to minimize equipment failures in the use of sucker-rod pumping machinery. The causes of premature pump failures should be defined and records kept concerning each failure. Chemical treatment for corrosion control should be scheduled, and care must be taken to prevent the introduction of oxygen into the system. Other considerations discussed include pretreatment of rods and methods of minimizing wear on rods and tubing.<br />From the experience gained over the past 25 years, ARCO Oil & Gas Co. has developed recommendations to reduce equipment failure in sucker-rod pumping installations.
