Abstract

A study was conducted to examine new knowledge on osteoclast regulation. The study focuses on cell biology of osteoclastic bone resorption. Results show that bone resorption is generated by successive steps which are individually regulated, the bone marrow is the site for progenitor formation, stromal cells support osteoclast formation, mineralized bone activates osteoclasts and calcitonin regulates the resorption process.
