Abstract

The role played by Zn in the formation of Zn-Fe phases in Sm2Fe17Nx permanent magnets was investigated using x-ray analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. The results showed that the coercivity of the magnet can be enhanced by heat treatment subsequent to the formation of the paramagnetic phase. An observed dip in the demagnetization curve indicated the possible presence of an additional paramagnetic phase.
