Abstract

A model is developed for the instantaneous cylindrical squeeze film force for planar motion. Using a rectangular flat plate model, equations for the short length, cylindrical squeeze film force are derived. The instantaneous squeeze film force includes three nonlinear terms which are the viscous term, the unsteady inertia terms and the convective inertia term. The derived equation can estimate the nonlinear multi-harmonic and symmetrical time wave forms of the instantaneous squeeze film force for both in-line and out-of-line intial eccentricities.
