Vitamins for newborn infant formulas: a review of recommendations with emphasis on data from low birth-weight infants

Guidelines for the vitamin components in infant formulas with particular focus on infants with low birth-weight from the US and the UK are compared with those included in an EC directive on intravenous vitamins for children. The need for the guidelines become apparent as the global markets for infant formula demand a degree of homogeneity of products. In the US, compliance with EC requirements will involve the development of a new formulation.
