Abstract

An isomeric series of S(sub 2)O macrocycles incorporating a xylyl group at the ortho (L(super 1)), meta (L(super 2)) and para (L(super 3)) positions were used to investigate the influence of the ring rigidity on silver(I) coordination modes resulting in supramolecular complexes. L(super 1) and L(super 3) afforded sandwich (1; Ag:L(super 1) =1.2) and infinite 1-D (3) complexes, respectively, while L(super 2) gave the 1-D polymer (2a) and unique 2:4 bridged dinuclear complex (2c).
