Abstract
- A zero net tidal torque is experienced by a satellite on an eccentric orbit in the absence of significant permanent asymmetry. Theoretical calculations show that this period for satellite Titan is 15.82 to 15.93 days, and the value depends on the tidal dissipation model. Radar observations also yield the same results. Radar data and asymmetry constraints show a large highland plateau of water-ice with a diameter of about 18 kilometers. The plateau is surrounded by hydrocarbon ocean.
