Abstract

A woman pharaoh, Hatshepsut, ruled Egypt from c.1479-1458 B.C. when Egypt was the most powerful land in the eastern Mediterranean. In a male dominated cult, Hatshepsut's ascendancy to the throne was shrouded in mystery though her inscriptions suggest that she was appointed heir to the throne by her father Thutmose I, but her reign was quite peaceful and Egypt saw an explosion of artistic creativity under her tutelage.
