Spectroscopic assessment pf T[m.sup.3+]: GdA[l.sub.3]B[O.sub.3][.sub.4] crystal as a potential diode pumped laser near 1.9 mum

The absorption cross section, the emission cross section, and the potential laser gain near 1.9 mum are investigated for both sigma and pi polarizations. The potential laser gain curves indicate that more than 200 nm tenability range is expected for this material.
