Culture shock: Overhauling the mentality of the military

The Global War on Terrorism has vastly increased the scope and depth of interaction among the US military and non-Western cultures. From the backstreets of Iraqi cities to the mountain villages of Afghanistan, soldiers and Marines are conducting operations within societies of mind-sets values and perceptions that differ from those of the US.
