Combined magnetic and single-crystal x-ray structural study of the linear chain antiferromagnet [[(C[H.sub.3]).sub.4]N][Mn[Cl.sub.3]] under varying pressure

A systematic study of the magnetic properties and single-crystal X-ray structure of tetramethylammonium manganese trichloride (TMMC) is carried out at various pressures in a novel approach towards the build up of structure-property relationships in a rapid, facile manner. The extent to which the structural phase transitions influence the magnetic behavior of the system and whether this limits the choice of model systems for future variable-pressure-temperature studies are described.
