Abstract

Englehard Ltd has devised analytical techniques for predicting equipment erosion and catalyst fluidization in fluid catalytic cracking units of petroleum refineries. The rate of erosion of container walls can be determined based on calculations considering catalyst particle hardness, shape, velocity and run length. States of catalyst fluidization can be predicted based on catalyst properties and certain ratios Englehard arrived at through its tests.<br />Catalyst characteristics and operating parameters can be used in simple equations to predict hardware erosion and catalyst fluidization in fluid catalytic cracking units (FCCUs).
