U.S. shakeout tests suppliers' flexibility

A major contraction in the US aerospace industry began with Pentagon program cuts, but is now driven by primary contractors' need to improve cycle times and profitability. By 1997 the supplier base will be about 30% of its 1991 size, but much leaner and stronger.
