Abstract
- Visual cycle reactions induce photoisomerization of the chromophore of rhodopsin, II-cis-retinaldehyde. This further causes regeneration of 11 cis configuration in vertebrates. The cycle II cis-retinol is enzymatically stored, esterified and oxidized. The cellular retinoid binding protein controls visual cycle reactions which involve the partitioning of the substrates.
