Abstract
- Sectarian-minded conservatives, much like their modernist counterparts, readily made use of such fashionable concepts as religion and faith, the rapidly growing print media, teaching assemblies and lay societies, scholarly journals, and the Western style of public speech to discredit and dispute their opponents. A discussion on the conflicts between doctrinal modernists like Murakami Sensho and sectarian-minded conservative thinkers examines several of these overlooked texts, as well as the last writings of Murakami.
