Abstract

Studies of Prophyromonas gingivalis strain W50 suggest that the rapidly growing strains are more virulent than the ones grown slowly. This difference is not dependent on haemin concentration. Cells grown under haemin-excess conditions are more virulent and possess greater trypsin-like enzyme activity. Haemin-limited cultures exhibit higher colligenolytic activity.
