Abstract

The Kruppel-associated box (KRAB) when fused to a heterologous DNA-binding domain from the yeast GAL4 protein, behaves as a DNA binding-dependent transcriptional repressor. The KRAB domain is found in the amino-terminal regions of several Kruppel-class Cys2His2 zinc finger proteins. KRAB is a conserved 75-aa region with two amphipathic alpha-helices.
