Abstract

Lucy Boston treated time in a similar manner to Rudyard Kipling in that the past and present were in constant interaction within most of her children's stories. The stories centered around Green Knowe often dealt with the ghosts or presences of ancestors who were still tangible in the lives of the characters. Her timescapes spanned more than a hundred years as she drew on her Victorian and Edwardian childhood experiences despite most critics considering her a modern writer.
