Optical and X-ray emission spectroscopy of high-power laser-induced dielectric breakdown in molecular gases and their mixtures

An overall optical emission of high-powered laser-induced dielectric breakdown (LIDB) in various molecular gases and their mixtures were measured and analyzed. It is concluded that the presence of the cold molecular gas surrounding the hot core of the LIDB plasma is a necessary condition for formation of complex molecular species.
